Tulum Takedown: A Wheels Up Yucatán Thriller by Jeanine Kitchel
A journalist. A missing girl. A fatal deadline. Layla Navarro, new head of Mexico’s most powerful cartel, knows sometimes even drug lords need to run for cover. Now she must piece together a complex puzzle of money laundering, dirty politics, and million-dollar land grabs before another innocent victim is lost to the shady world of human trafficking.
Tulum Takedown: A Wheels Up Yucatán Thriller by Jeanine Kitchel is the second book in what will be a trilogy and follows on from Book one – Wheels Up – A Novel of Drugs, Cartels and Survival. I was honored and thrilled to read and write a book review this incredible suspenseful novel.
Layla Navarro is not only prominent in the Mexican drug kingdom but is the head of the most powerful cartel. So, she is aware, more than most, of her vulnerability. She takes a break in the Mayan Riviera until the heat has died down from her last deadly encounter (see Book One) where she befriends a journalist who was previously kidnapped and who now fears her niece, Silvia, has been abducted. Layla gathers her most trusted around her and sets off to find Silvia and hopefully to save her. So follows an exciting and tense race to discover Silvia’s whereabouts and to bring her safely home.
The author, Jeanine Kitchel, takes the reader on a nail-biting journey into the underworld of Mexico where drug cartels rule and corruption is rife. It is clear the author has an excellent knowledge of the country and this comes across in her convincing descriptions, painting a picture for the reader with her words. The characters are so well-developed they become familiar, and Layla is a protagonist who is both appealing and commands respect at the same time. The reader will find themselves totally engrossed in this other world where no- one can be trusted, and no-one is. Well-written, with a twist at every turn, this book really does have you turning pages and reluctant to leave.
Intrigue and action abound and Tulum Takedown: A Wheels Up Yucatán Thriller by Jeanine Kitchel moves swiftly to its surprising and satisfying conclusion and will leave you wanting much more from this author. Fortunately, there is a third book in the pipeline so fans of this genre, of author Jeanine Kitchel, and of Layla will not have long to wait. Book review by Artisan Book Reviews.
