Darkness and Light by Annelies George is the second book in the Jessie Golden Earth series and follows Jessie’s story as she strives to live a contented life with new husband Carlos Gomez. With a unique convincing plot, remarkable characters and an expressive writing style Annelies George has written a 5 star story which readers will not be able to put down.
Try as she might, however, she begins to realize that all is not as it should be as she starts to suspect her high-flying husband of treachery. Complications arise after her father-in-law’s death when the contents of his Will are revealed which are anything but straight forward and will have a tremendous impact on Carlos’ empire, and the change in him is clearly linked to the Will, or so she assumes. Jessie tries to help with the business, but she can see her husband’s attention and affection falling away. Suspecting he is having an affair, Jessie jumps at the chance of a trip to the Seychelles together, hoping it will be a second honeymoon for them, and a second chance for their marriage. But the idealistic trip she imagined and hoped for does not materialize, and she is devastated by what she discovers there.
There is so much to this story; the mafia, the CIA and the FBI for starters, let alone the questions surrounding a death in the past and Jessie is determined use her skills to find answers. Add to this a psychic and a rock-star dependent on his uncontrollable drug habit, and Jessie is in a whirlwind of conflicting emotions as she has to deal with betrayal and being deceived by those she trusts, yet struggling to follow her own quest and unravel the mysteries that surround her.
This book is stunning in the way the story has been composed and written. The storyline flows beautifully, and the characters are so believable you feel you might meet them in person. The descriptions are very visual, which is a credit to the author, Annelies George, in her skill in capturing the reader’s imagination and transporting them to another world.
Darkness and Light by Annelies George is a must read story and highly recommended by Artisan Book Reviews.
